Where to buy authentic Beeralu Lace in Galle?
I want to support local artisans. Where can I buy authentic, handmade pillow/bobbin lace (Beeralu) in or around Galle?

The absolute best place is the village of Magalle, just outside the Galle Fort. It is the traditional heartland of Beeralu lace. You can visit the homes of the weavers, watch them work the bobbins, and buy directly from them at fair prices.
If you don't have time to leave the Fort, there is a women's cooperative shop called "Shoba Display Gallery" inside Galle Fort that guarantees the money goes directly to the village artisans.

Someone befriends you and offers a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to buy gems at wholesale prices and resell them abroad for huge profit. They may show you fake export certificates. The gems are worthless glass or low-quality stones.
Restaurants without visible prices. Bill arrives with inflated charges (500 LKR coconut becomes 1500 LKR). "Service charges" added without disclosure.
