I know Sri Lanka is a tea country, but as a coffee snob, will I find a proper barista-made Flat White anywhere?

Yes, cafe culture has boomed. In Colombo, go to "Department of Coffee" or "Kopi Kade". In the surf towns (Ahangama, Weligama, Hiriketiya), almost every boutique cafe has a La Marzocco machine and pulls excellent espresso.

Beware of random local guesthouses offering "coffee". It is usually Nescafé instant powder. Always ask if they have a machine.

Try coffee from the "Soul Coffee" roasters. Many local cafes use their beans, and they grow high-quality Arabica in the Sri Lankan highlands.
