Where to find live music or small-scale cultural performances?

Some hotels and restaurants in tourist areas have live music nights (often Western or fusion). For more traditional, look for small cultural events at temples or community halls, especially during festivals. In Colombo there are occasional gigs and cultural evenings. The best experiences are often spontaneous - ask locals what's happening. Some guesthouses occasionally host local musicians for guests.
