I'm interested in traditional arts and rituals. Any authentic places to observe mask making or devil dancing?

Ambalangoda on the south coast is the center for traditional mask carving. There are workshops and small museums where you can see carvers at work. For devil dancing (exorcism rituals), these are still performed in some villages, especially in the south, but they're not tourist shows - they're serious cultural/religious events. You might see toned-down cultural performances at festivals or organized events, but genuine rituals are not usually open to casual observers. Respect the context.

Some cultural centers and hotels organize short demonstrations of mask dancing and drumming. It's not the real ritual but gives you an idea of the art form. For deeper understanding, talk to local artists in Ambalangoda.
