We want tea-trail footpaths around Hantana or the Knuckles fringe without hiring an Ella-bound driver for the day. What actually works as a half-day walk from Kandy lodging with a local tuk drop, not a full hill circuit.

Hantana fringe paths with a tuk drop and timed pickup work well. Knuckles fringe needs more planning — do not treat it as a casual Sunday stroll.

Ask the guesthouse for a walker-friendly estate gate, not a scenic-drive package. Drivers who only do Ella loops rush the wrong roads.

Keep it half-day and turn back before heat builds. Footpaths, not viewpoint parking lots, are the point.
