Technically, wild camping in government pine forests requires permission. However, many of us who run homestays near the Ohiya station have private land bordering the pines. You can pitch your tent safely on our property for a small fee, and we will absolutely cook hot rice, dhal, and pol sambol and bring it directly to your tent. It gets incredibly cold, so hot food is a must!

Watch out for the mountain mist. It rolls in thick by 4 PM and soaks through everything. Ensure your tent has a heavy-duty rainfly.

The pine needles make a super soft bed for the tent, but they are highly flammable. Do not light open campfires without asking the landowners first.
