Wildlife safari at dawn - 5am realistic with kids or is 8am pointless?
3 Answers from travellers
Dawn safari (5-9am) has genuinely better wildlife activity than 8-10am. Difference is real but not dramatic. Reality with young kids: an 8am start with rested kids > a 5am start with cranky kids. Groggy kids = whining = you enjoying less = missed sightings. Realistic: 8am is a fine compromise. You'll still see wildlife. Or split: 6am safari one day (with a chill afternoon), 8am another (with earlier bedtime). Don't force 5am wakeups every day.
^ this. Also: full-day safari that starts at 8am still catches wildlife between 8-11am (still active). And afternoon animals (2-6pm session) are also active. For kids, 8am + afternoon combo often better than dawn + dusk.
