Wilpattu versus Yala in mid-August: quieter northwest, or a longer road for the same heat
Two of us can go either way. August. We are not asking for a later bungalow gazette. We want the lived park: queues, jeeps, rest, animals as a maybe. Palatupana stories scare the partner. Wilpattu is a longer hop from here.

August is still dry-season south, so Yala is the busy postcard. Wilpattu is often fewer vehicles and a longer day on worse road. Neither is empty. I will not invent a tariff or a closure. If you hate Palatupana queues, Wilpattu is the calmer gamble, not a guarantee of leopards.
From Puttalam side, Wilpattu is the ordinary park. Yala is a different holiday. Pick the coast you are already on. Do not cross the island for a forum winner.
Did Wilpattu. Quieter jeeps, more time in the vehicle, still heat. Glad we did not sit Palatupana.
Yala from Tissa was a queue and a rest window. Animals happened anyway. Different mood, not a better park in the abstract.
