5th Kumbal Saturday then India at SSC Sunday - is Kandy to Colombo at 6am after a late night even sane
We are staying for tomorrow's last Kumbal. Test starts Sunday at SSC, free gates 3/4/5/7. They named the squad today and Chandimal and Kusal are out. Can we watch drums till 9, sleep four hours, and be on a hill at Maitland Crescent before lunch, or is that how people miss the first session in a Kegalle jam.

Gates 3, 4, 5, 7 are the free public ones. First session is still a morning start - be at the gate before 9.30 if you want a grass seat. Kandy → Colombo Saturday night after a Kumbal is a 3.5-6 hour road depending on rain and the leftover blocks. I would not leave at 6am Sunday. Leave Saturday night after the unwind, sleep Colombo, walk to SSC.
A1 Sunday morning is also church + market + whatever the Kegalle drizzle is doing. Build 5 hours or sleep west of Kandy and still leave at 5. Better: Colombo Saturday night.
Squad news does not change entry. It changes how good the batting looks. Still worth it if you like Test cricket.
Do the free gates still let you walk in with a small backpack or is Sunday security going to make us dump it.
Scam Watch: colombo
Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
