Go with guide for unknown trails. Tell someone your plan. Bring water, snake bite kit if remote, and watch for leeches in wet areas.

Mainly watch your step and stay on path. Monkeys can be cheeky too.

Yeah leeches are common in some forests. Salt or repellent helps. Don't go alone.
