The local red government buses are generally safe, but they are incredibly cramped, fast paced, and totally lack dedicated luggage compartments. If you board with a massive, heavy suitcase, you will struggle to fit it in the narrow aisles and the conductor might actually refuse you entry during rush hour. For traveling with large luggage, always choose the private AC buses or hire a taxi.
