We have a few hours before our flight from BIA. Is the lagoon boat trip interesting for wildlife or is it too polluted near the city.

It is definitely worth it if you enjoy birdwatching and seeing local life. You can see traditional catamaran fishing boats and visit the mangrove swamps where monitor lizards and various kingfishers are common. Most tours also stop at a small island for a coconut drink. It is a very peaceful way to spend two hours away from the traffic of Negombo town. Just ensure you agree on the price before boarding, usually around three thousand per boat.
