My driver wants to take me to a "Spice Garden and Ayurvedic Medicine" place near Matale. Is this a tourist trap?

Yes, most of the roadside spice gardens in Matale are highly commercialized tourist traps. The "free" tour ends in a shop where creams and spices are sold at 500% markup, and drivers get a massive commission. Decline politely.

I fell for this. The massage was nice, but they guilt-tripped me into buying a $40 jar of aloe vera cream. Buy your spices at the local municipal markets or grocery stores instead!
