I am terrified of Box Jellyfish. Do I need to wear a stinger suit when swimming on the South or East Coast?

There are no deadly Box Jellyfish or Irukandji here like in Australia. You might occasionally feel a tiny, itchy sting from "sea lice" (microscopic jellyfish larvae) when the water is very warm, but it is harmless.

I surfed in a bikini for 6 weeks and never saw a single jellyfish. Don't stress.

During certain monsoon winds, Portuguese Man O' War (bluebottles) can wash up on the beaches. They look like blue plastic bags. Do not step on them! If you see them on the sand, don't swim that day.
