I'm an intermediate surfer. Is Arugam Bay still good in August or has the season moved on? Also looking for a chill place to stay with good food.

August is actually excellent for intermediates at Arugam Bay. The main point (A-Bay) has consistent 4-6ft waves and the crowd is much smaller than July. Main Street has great cafes now - try 'The Point' or 'Bay View' for breakfast and coffee.

Stay in the quieter part near the lagoon if you want peace. The surf beach gets noisy with parties some nights.

Sounds ideal. Booking a place near the main point now.

If the swell is small, head to Pottuvil Point or Crocodile Rock for better shaped waves. Arugam Bay can be mushy in August some days.

I was there mid-August last year. Waves were perfect for my level and I met some great people at the hostels.
