We have a scooter and are exploring south of Panama village. Are there any hidden local seafood shacks down there, or do we need to bring our own food.

There is virtually nothing commercial south of Panama. It becomes a strict buffer zone for Kumana National Park. You will not find any restaurants or cafes. However, if you see a local fisherman near Okanda, you can sometimes offer them cash to grill up some of their fresh catch over a fire on the beach. Otherwise, pack plenty of water and snacks before leaving Arugam Bay.

Stop at Panama village itself before heading south. There are a few tiny auntie-run shops selling fresh rotis.

Definitely bring water. The heat down there is brutal and there is zero shade.

And be back before dusk. Wild elephants use that road to cross between jungles.

No, it turns into a very corrugated dirt track. Be careful on a scooter, the sand gets deep.
