Many people use dual-SIM phones — one physical slot for a local SIM with data, and eSIM or the second slot for their home number (on roaming or WiFi calling). WhatsApp, Signal, and similar apps handle most communication over data, so the home number mainly needs to be reachable for important calls. Some local SIMs offer cheap international calling add-ons if needed. Test WiFi calling before relying on it. Having both options gives flexibility. Most modern phones handle this setup well.
Dual-SIM or eSIM + local physical SIM is the most common setup now. It works well for most people.
