Do factories charge entrance fees for walk-in tourists? Which historic factories offer the best explanation of the orthodox tea production process?

Damro Labookellie and Pedro Tea Estate are the two most famous near Nuwara Eliya. Guided tours are very cheap (around 500-1000 LKR) and include a lovely tea tasting session at the end overlooking the valleys.

Pedro is fascinating because they process tea mostly at night when temperatures are cool. Walk around the fields to see the hardworking tea pluckers; just remember it is polite to ask permission before taking close-up portraits.
