Best time to climb Sigiriya to avoid wasp attacks?
I read terrifying stories about giant hornet and wasp attacks at Sigiriya Rock. When is the best time of day to climb to minimize this risk?

The wasps are agitated by noise and heat. The absolute best time to climb is right when the gates open at 6:30 AM. It is cool, quiet, and the wasps are dormant.
Wow, wasp cages! That is wild. I will definitely aim for 6:30 AM to be safe.
Do not wear strong perfumes or bright floral colors either! And if you hear a buzzing sound, stay completely still. Do not swat at them.
There are actually mesh "wasp cages" built into the stairways halfway up. If a swarm happens, the guards will rush everyone into the cages. It is very well managed.
