Cards are widely accepted in tourist areas, hotels, and larger restaurants, but many small places and markets are cash-only. ATMs are available in towns and tourist areas — Dialog and some bank ATMs usually work with international cards. Keep some cash on hand for smaller expenses, tuk-tuks, and markets. Tipping is appreciated but not always expected in the same way as in some Western countries. Small tips for good service (drivers, guides, hotel staff) are common and welcomed. Many people round up bills or leave 10% in restaurants. Having a mix of cash and cards works best. Notify your bank before travel to avoid card blocks.
