Bolgoda lake wakeboarding and transitioning to Colombo rooftop parties
5 Answers from travellers
Absolutely. Bolgoda Lake is only about a 45 minute drive from central Colombo depending on traffic. You can book an afternoon session with the local wakeboard clubs, get some glassy water runs in behind a Mastercraft boat, and head back to the city by sunset. You will easily have enough time to shower and hit the Port City Beach Club or the rooftop lounges in Kollupitiya by 9 PM.
The water at Bolgoda is brackish and completely flat. It is the best wakeboarding spot on the island. Look out for the massive water monitors swimming by the mangroves.
Book your Uber back to the city in advance. Getting a ride out of the deep residential roads around Bolgoda Lake around rush hour can be slightly annoying.
Take a shower immediately after wakeboarding there. The lake water can sometimes irritate your skin if you leave it on too long.
If you want progressive house music, the C VIBES rooftop in Colombo is currently booking some of the best local talent on Saturday nights.

Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
