Do customs officials confiscate drones at BIA airport? Do I need explicit pre-approval or authority registration to fly a mini drone over the beaches?

You are legally required to register your drone with the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAA) and obtain a military defense clearance before flying. Do not fly near military bases, temples, or Sigiriya rock (wasps attack drones there).

They don’t usually seize small drones at customs check if it is for personal use, but flying without a permit risks heavy fines if the local police check you. Better to register online beforehand.
