Local so do not panic you will see again easily Are there opticians YES proper OPTICIANS and optical shops are common in the cities and bigger towns (Colombo Kandy Galle Negombo and the larger centres) there are established optical chains and independent opticians that are modern professional and well equipped this is very sortable Eye test and glasses they can do an EYE TEST (a proper refraction) on the spot and make GLASSES to your prescription for a SIMPLE pair the turnaround is often quick (same day or a day or two for standard lenses longer for complex or specialist lenses) bring your old prescription if you have it (or a photo of your glasses spec) to speed it up but they can test you fresh if not so you can walk in get tested and get new glasses fast Contact lenses and solution YES contact lenses (standard prescriptions) and lens SOLUTION are available at the opticians and pharmacies (the bigger pharmacies and optical shops stock solution and common lenses) bring your contact lens prescription or details specialist or unusual prescriptions may need ordering Where to go head to an OPTICAL shop or chain in the nearest city (ask your hotel or search for an optician in the town) the city opticians are your best bet for range and speed Quality and cost the quality is GOOD (professional opticians proper testing decent frames and lenses) and the COST is much LOWER than in Europe (an eye test and a pair of glasses are very affordable here often a fraction of home prices) so it is cheap to sort and many even get spare pairs made while here What to do now go to a city optical shop explain you broke your glasses and need a replacement they will test your eyes and make new glasses quickly and cheaply (bring your old prescription or glasses if you can) and you are back to seeing in no time so do not worry Sri Lankan opticians are good professional fast and cheap get to an optical shop in the nearest city for an eye test and new glasses (often same day) plus contact lenses and solution it is one of the easier travel mishaps to fix here
Bring a photo of your old glasses spec or the frame if you saved the broken one it helps them match the lenses and fit quickly even a photo of the little numbers printed on the arm of the glasses can help the optician get your prescription right
A tip given how cheap it is many travellers get a SPARE pair made while here so you are never stranded again it costs so little compared to home that a backup pair is worth it especially if you are as dependent on them as you are
I got prescription sunglasses made here for almost nothing the optician was excellent and quick so beyond an emergency replacement it is a good place to get any optical bits you have been putting off the value is brilliant
Opticians are good professional fast and cheap so get to an optical shop in the nearest city for an eye test and new glasses often same day plus lenses and solution and bring my old prescription to speed it up this is exactly the reassurance I needed I can see a way out of being blind on holiday thank you
