I have a day in Colombo. How safe is it and what's the best way to get around?

Colombo is generally safe for tourists during the day in main areas (Galle Face, Fort, Cinnamon Gardens, etc.). Use ride-hailing apps or hotel taxis for convenience and safety, especially at night or if you're unsure of directions. Walking is fine in central tourist zones during daylight. Traffic can be heavy, so allow extra time. Many attractions are spread out, so planning an efficient route or hiring a driver for half a day can be worthwhile. Petty theft can happen in crowded areas, so keep valuables secure. Most visitors have no issues by staying aware and using common sense. Many hotels can arrange reliable drivers or recommend trusted transport options.
