Is it safe to walk around Pettah Market alone as a female?
I want to experience the chaos of Pettah market in Colombo, but I am traveling alone. Is it generally safe during the day?

It is very safe during the day. It is just incredibly crowded, loud, and chaotic. Men carrying heavy loads (Nattamis) will shout to get out of the way. Just keep your bag zipped and close to your front to avoid pickpockets, which is standard for any busy market in the world.

Just be prepared for the heat! It’s a concrete jungle and gets incredibly hot by midday. Go early in the morning around 9 AM.
Dress modestly (t-shirt and long pants/skirt). You might get a few stares, but nobody will bother you. It’s actually a really fun place to buy cheap spices and electronics.
