Drinking alcohol on the public beach outside clubs in Ahangama

Public consumption of alcohol on Sri Lankan beaches is illegal. While police sometimes turn a blind eye during massive tourist parties, they have been cracking down recently in Ahangama. If police patrol the beach, they will confiscate your alcohol and fine you. Furthermore, taking glass bottles onto the beach is strictly prohibited for safety reasons.
