Hidden gems for yoga wellness homestays away from the coast
4 Answers from travellers
Yes! Look to the hills around Kandy and Ella. While not traditional "homestays", places like the Nilambe Meditation Centre near Kandy offer a deeply authentic, non-commercial, silent wellness experience. For actual homestays, look for eco-lodges near Kithalella (outside Ella) or Hanthana (near Kandy). The local families will gladly cook Ayurvedic vegan meals, and the jungle setting provides the perfect quiet for your own yoga practice.
Always ask the host beforehand if they can accommodate a strict Ayurvedic diet, otherwise they will give you standard spicy curries.
I stayed in a treehouse homestay near Sigiriya. Woke up to peacocks and did yoga on the wooden deck. Way better than the beach.
