The legal blood alcohol limit in Sri Lanka is 0.08 percent. Yes, the traffic police actively set up roadblocks outside major party hubs like Mirissa and Ahangama specifically to breathalyze tourists driving scooters and tuk-tuks. If you fail, you will be arrested, spend the night in a cell, and face a heavy court fine the next day. Do not drink and drive.
They definitely check. I saw two tourists get pulled over and breathalyzed right outside Weligama bay at 2 AM last week.
Just pay a local tuk tuk driver 1000 rupees to drive you home. It is so cheap and not worth the risk of a foreign jail.
As the designated driver, you can still enjoy King Coconut water at the clubs. Keeps you hydrated for morning yoga!
If you crash our rental vehicle while intoxicated, your insurance is completely voided and you are personally liable for the full replacement cost of the vehicle.
