I want to stay an extra month. The online portal keeps crashing. Is it easier to just go to the immigration office in Colombo?

Go in person to the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Battaramulla (Colombo). Get there by 8:00 AM. It is a very structured process now. You will have your passport stamped and handed back to you by 11:00 AM.

Bring a pen, a passport photo, and US Dollars or a credit card. They charge the extension fee in USD, but if you pay in cash rupees, they use a terrible exchange rate.

I will try to go in person early. Thanks for the heads up on the dress code!

Do not wear shorts! They will not let you into the immigration building if your knees are showing. Wear proper trousers or a long skirt.

I used an agency called "Visa Sri Lanka" to do it for me while I stayed on the beach. Cost an extra $30, but saved me a whole day of traveling to Colombo.
