Extreme canyoning in Kitulgala and traditional rice and curry buffets
4 Answers from travellers
Yes! Most reputable rafting and canyoning bases are attached to eco-lodges along the Kelani River. After doing the confidence jumps and sliding down the rock flumes, they offer a massive traditional clay-pot buffet. It is usually all-you-can-eat, featuring river fish, jackfruit curry, and fresh sambols.
Look out for the lotus root curry in the buffet! Kitulgala is famous for it, and it has an incredible crunchy texture.
The confidence jump is terrifying but amazing. Just make sure you cross your arms over your chest when you hit the water so your life jacket does not hit your chin.
Wear proper strap-on water sandals or old running shoes. The rocks you have to scramble over before the cliff jumps are insanely slippery.
