Walk inland down the road next to the Ahangama railway station. About 500 meters in, there are several small local homes that set out clay pots at lunchtime. They serve incredible jackfruit curry, dhal, and gotukola sambol for around 500 rupees. Just ask for "Elawalu" (vegetable) rice.

The local bakery vans (choon paan) also have great vegetable rotis in the morning for super cheap.

Sri Lankan food is naturally very vegan friendly. Just make sure to ask them not to put Maldive fish chips in the sambol.
