If we party in Mirissa until 4 AM, are there any public night buses running back to Colombo along the coast, or do we need a private van.

There are intercity normal buses (route 32) that run 24/7 along the Galle Road, but they are slow and exhaustingly loud. The Expressway luxury buses stop running around 9 PM. If you are hungover at 4 AM, split a private AC van or an Uber Intercity with friends. It will save your sanity.

We took the public night bus once. The driver blasted Sri Lankan pop music at max volume the entire 4 hours.
