I heard drivers overcharge tourists constantly. How do we negotiate fairly.

The absolute easiest way to avoid being scammed by street tuk tuks in Colombo is to strictly use the PickMe or Uber apps. These apps provide a fixed, transparent metered fare before you even enter the vehicle, completely eliminating the need to negotiate. If you must hail a tuk tuk on the street, always insist they use the meter before getting inside. If they refuse or say the meter is broken, just walk away and find another one.
