I love history and tea. Are there any ancient stone ruins hidden directly inside the working tea estates in the hill country.

Yes! Look into the Loolecondera Estate near Kandy. It is the very first tea estate in Sri Lanka, started by James Taylor. While not an ancient temple, you can hike to the stone ruins of his original log cabin hidden deep in the tea bushes. It is a fantastic mix of colonial history and gorgeous tea country scenery.

You can also sit on the exact stone seat where James Taylor used to look over his estate.

James Taylors cabin sounds cool enough for me!

Most pre-colonial ruins are in the dry zone (Cultural Triangle), not the high elevation tea country.

The drive up to Loolecondera is completely unpaved and very bumpy. Hire a strong tuk-tuk.
