We are heading north to Jaffna. Are there any hidden ancient ruins off the beaten path for landscape photography.

Take the navy ferry to Delft Island (Neduntheevu). It is a massive hidden gem. You will find the ancient ruins of a Portuguese fort built out of coral, an ancient Baobab tree, and wild horses roaming the dry plains. The stark, flat landscape and coral structures make for incredibly unique photography compared to the rest of Sri Lanka.

No, but you should hire a local tuk-tuk or open-backed truck right at the pier to drive you to all the sites.

Bring tons of water and sunscreen. Delft is scorching hot and has very few shops.

The ferry to Delft is an adventure itself. It is packed with locals and very rough on windy days. Secure your camera gear.

Also check out the Kadurugoda Viharaya (Kandarodai) ruins near Jaffna. It has dozens of unique, tiny dome-shaped stupas.
