Instead, visit the National Spice Garden in Matale. It is government run, incredibly educational, and the guides genuinely focus on botany rather than forcing you into a gift shop.

Alternatively, just visit the central municipal market in Matale town. You will see raw, authentic spices being traded by locals at normal prices, which is a fantastic cultural experience on its own.
