Hiriketiya is the horseshoe cove still the cool surf and yoga spot or has it been loved to death
Hiriketiya the little horseshoe bay near Dickwella keeps appearing as the cool laid back surf and yoga and smoothie bowl cove the new darling of the south coast But the new darling label worries me has it been loved to death and gone full hipster crowd or is it still genuinely lovely Is June a good time for it (south coast monsoon) what is the surf like for different levels and is it worth basing there or just a day trip Honest take on whether the hype holds please

South coast guesthouse owner so the honest local take on the darling cove Has it been loved to death partly the honest answer Hiriketiya went from a sleepy fishing cove to the south coast IT spot in a few years the horseshoe bay IS genuinely beautiful and the laid back surf yoga smoothie vibe is real but so are the crowds the cafes and the hipster scene that came with the fame in high season the little bay gets busy and the prices climbed it is no longer the secret it was so manage the expectation it is lovely AND popular not undiscovered The June timing this is actually GOOD news for you June is south coast monsoon so the peak crowds thin out the high season scene quiets and you get the cove with fewer people the trade off is the monsoon swell and the occasional rain but the bay itself is somewhat protected and the off season calm is part of the charm right now you may catch it closer to how it was The surf for different levels the bay has a gentle inside that works for beginners and learners (surf schools operate here) and a more powerful point and reef break on the headland for intermediates and up so it genuinely suits mixed levels in one small bay which is part of its appeal June swell makes it punchier check daily Base or day trip if the laid back surf yoga cafe cove life is your thing BASE here for a few days it rewards lingering the slow mornings the yoga the cove swims it is a vibe to sink into not rush if you just want to see it a day trip from a nearby south coast base works but you miss the point which is the unhurried cove rhythm The honest verdict the hype is half right genuinely lovely no longer secret and best enjoyed in the quieter shoulder you are arriving in lower your undiscovered expectations enjoy the cove and the off season calm and base a few days if the slow surf life appeals
Went in the off season shoulder and it was the sweet spot quiet enough to feel the cove charm but the cafes still open the high season version sounds like the opposite trade
The mixed levels in one small bay point is true beginners on the inside intermediates on the point so a mixed group can all surf the same cove which is rare and convenient
Lovely but no longer secret and June actually thins the crowd is the honest read I needed lowering the undiscovered expectation and basing a few days for the slow cove rhythm thank you
