Room in Ahangama after the 18 Aug demolitions. Host WhatsApp'd a nicer rate if we cancel the Booking.com reservation and pay cash on arrival. I am already nervous the place exists. Is this the usual Sri Lanka handshake or how people get to the airport with no bed.

I will meet a better cash rate after you arrive and see the room, and I will not ask you to cancel first. Anyone who wants the Booking.com cancellation before you have a key is protecting himself, not you. August no-shows are real - that is why we like the platform too. If the listing is a beach cafe that just got knocked down, the host should be moving you, not discounting you.

We did the cancel-and-cash thing once in Ella, it was fine. We did it once in the south and the room was a mattress on a roof. Now I keep Booking.com until I have put my bag on the bed, then I decide.

After 18 Aug in Ahangama, confirm the pin is still a building. Ask for a same-day photo of the gate.
