How do I catch the scenic sea train from Colombo Fort?
I want the route that runs right along the ocean waves south toward Mount Lavinia. Which platform should I go to and what is the best time.

You should take any train heading toward Galle, Matara, or Kalutara. These usually depart from platforms 4 or 5 at Colombo Fort. Try to catch an afternoon train around 4:30 PM to see the sunset over the ocean. Make sure to sit on the right side of the carriage when heading south to get that iconic view where the tracks are just meters away from the water.
Scam Watch: colombo
Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
