If you eat at small, authentic local restaurants known as "hotels" in Sri Lanka, a massive plate of vegetable rice and curry will only cost you around 1 to 2 USD.

If you add chicken or fish to your rice and curry at a local spot, the price rises slightly to about 2 to 3 USD per meal. It is incredibly affordable and filling.

In contrast, eating at trendy tourist cafes in places like Ella or Galle Fort will cost you around 8 to 15 USD for a burger or a smoothie bowl. Eat local to save money.
