How much should I pay for tuk-tuks and how do I avoid overcharging or scams?
I'm new to Sri Lanka. What's a fair price for tuk-tuks and what scams should I watch out for?

Always agree on the price before getting in. Short rides in towns are usually 200-400 LKR depending on distance. Longer trips or night rides cost more. Many drivers will quote higher to tourists — polite bargaining is normal. Avoid drivers who are overly aggressive or try to take you to shops first. Using hotel-recommended drivers or apps (where available) reduces hassle. If a driver refuses to use the meter or agree on a clear price upfront, it's better to find another one. Most drivers are honest, but a few will try to overcharge if they think they can.
Will always confirm price before getting in. Thanks for the practical tips.
Agree on price first, every time. Short town rides shouldn't cost more than a few hundred rupees. Trust your gut — if it feels off, don't go.
