How safe is it to walk from hotels to restaurants or beaches at night in tourist areas?
I like walking in the evenings. How safe are tourist areas for walking at night?

In well-established tourist areas (Galle Fort, Unawatuna, Ella, etc.), walking in the evenings is generally safe, especially on main streets with other people around. However, it's still wise to stay on well-lit main roads, avoid isolated areas, and not walk alone late at night in quieter spots. Many areas have tuk-tuks readily available if you prefer not to walk. Tourist zones are usually safer than less-visited areas. Trust your instincts — if a street feels empty or uncomfortable, take a tuk-tuk. Most visitors walk around tourist areas in the evenings without issues, but basic precautions still apply. Many hotels are happy to call a tuk-tuk for you if you're unsure.
Main tourist areas are generally fine for walking in the evening. Stick to well-lit streets with other people around. If in doubt, take a tuk-tuk.
