I am terrified of leeches. Do I need specialized leech socks for hiking Ella Rock or walking through wet tea plantations?

If it hasn’t rained recently, you won’t see many. If it is damp, just apply salt water or high-concentration insect repellent to your shoes and ankles—they fall right off.

Leech socks are a good investment if you plan to trek deep inside the Sinharaja Rain Forest, but for standard tourist trails in Ella, simple high socks and long pants are fine.
