Yes, you can easily take the train directly from the Colombo Fort railway station heading north towards Anuradhapura or Jaffna. You must simply disembark at the Maho Junction railway station. The train journey takes approximately three and a half hours. From Maho Junction, the magnificent Yapahuwa ancient rock fortress is only a very short, highly affordable ten minute tuk tuk ride away, making it an incredibly accessible historical day trip.
