Make sure you explicitly ask about the daily mileage limit. Many cheap rental quotes have a very low included mileage, and you will be charged heavy penalty fees per kilometer if you exceed it.

Take detailed photos and a slow continuous video of the entire vehicle, including the roof and under the bumpers, before you drive away. This prevents any disputes about pre existing scratches when you return the car.
