You must immediately contact the Tourist Police and file a formal complaint with the National Gem and Jewellery Authority of Sri Lanka. They take these scams incredibly seriously because it damages the countrys massive export reputation.

If you are still in the country, the Tourist Police will often physically accompany you back to the shop. The intense threat of losing their business license usually forces the scammer to refund your cash instantly.

If you paid with an international credit card, contact your bank immediately to initiate a formal chargeback process, citing severe fraud and providing the fake stone as evidence.
