I packed for tropics but Nuwara Eliya is freezing in June
Coming from a 31 degree Mirissa beach week I am now in Nuwara Eliya shivering at 9 degrees at night locals are wearing puffer jackets My guesthouse has no heating and the bed has a thin sheet only What is the realistic minimum temperature in June and where can I buy cheap warm layers without going back to Colombo

Nuwara Eliya sits at 1868 m June nights drop to 8 to 11 degrees Celsius daytime 17 to 21 degrees Heritage hotels (Grand Hotel Hill Club Heritance Tea Factory) have fireplaces and electric blankets Mid range guesthouses provide hot water bottles ask at reception Nuwara Eliya main market behind the bus station sells fleece pullovers and thermal layers 800 to 1500 LKR Cheaper than Colombo Local cardigans from Cargills are around 2500 LKR
Hot ginger tea at street stalls is the local way to warm up 50 LKR per cup tastes better than fancy hotel versions
Horton Plains for Worlds End hike at 0530 is brutal 4 to 6 degrees with wind chill Bring or buy a fleece beanie and gloves Tour vans usually have spare jackets ask in advance
Some Airbnbs charge extra for hot water heater to be turned on Always confirm at booking
