India are at SSC from Sunday and someone said it is free - can we just walk in between Perahera nights
In Colombo Saturday, Kandy Sunday night for 1st Randoli. Saturday or Monday at the cricket would be a dream for my dad. SLC tweeted free admission. Is that a real gate or a local-only thing. Which gate. Do we need a passport. Start time.

It is a real free-entry experiment. SLC named SSC gates 3, 4, 5 and 7. Go early, carry water, sun hat, no big bags if you can help it. Start is the usual Test hour - plan to be in the ground well before 10. You will sit with whoever else showed up; it is not a corporate box. Passport is not a ticket, but carry ID. Monday 24th is a normal Randoli night in Kandy - you can do a morning session and still drive up if you leave at tea, but you will be tired and in traffic.
We did a session at Galle last week through Gate 4. Casual, a bit empty at times, lovely. SSC will be busier because it is Colombo and India.
Grand Randoli is Thursday 27th - do not try to do the last Test day and the last night in Kandy unless you enjoy suffering.
Saturday 22nd is still a Kumbal night in Kandy. If you do cricket Saturday you are choosing cricket over 5th Kumbal. That is allowed. Just know the trade.
Scam Watch: colombo
Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
