1 Answer from travellers
Compared to massive mega cities in India or China the air quality in Colombo is actually surprisingly good primarily because it is a coastal city constantly flushed by strong ocean breezes. However during peak rush hour traffic the exhaust fumes from thousands of diesel buses and two stroke tuk tuks can become locally intense along the main arterial roads. If you have asthma simply avoid walking directly alongside Galle Road during the 5 PM traffic jam. Sticking to the oceanfront promenade at Galle Face Green or the leafy shaded streets of Colombo 07 will be perfectly comfortable.

Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
