Is it okay to wear bikinis on the beach?
I am staying near Tangalle. Is it culturally acceptable to wear a two-piece bikini on the beach, or should I wear a one-piece or shorts?

On tourist-heavy beaches (Mirissa, Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa, Hiriketiya), bikinis are completely fine and normal. However, if you are on a remote, local village beach, it is more respectful to wear shorts and a t-shirt over your swimsuit.
The main rule is: do not walk away from the sand in your bikini. If you are walking to a street cafe, stepping onto the road, or going into a shop, put a sundress or sarong on. Walking around town in swimwear is highly frowned upon.
Exactly what Priya said. Beach is fine, road is not. Also, topless sunbathing is strictly illegal everywhere in Sri Lanka.
That makes total sense. I will bring a quick-dry sarong to wrap around myself whenever I leave the sand.
